The Library of Congress: America’s Library for Educators

IDD Delivers Training Courses for the Library of Congress
Blacksburg, Virginia, April 15, 2010
IDD delivers interactive courses for teachers to learn how to use, and share with their students, the power of the primary source materials that are available at the Library of Congress. The multimedia-rich professional development modules use video, audio and primary source analysis activities to encourage teachers to use primary source analysis activities in their classrooms. These applications were developed in Flash.
About LOC
The Library of Congress (LOC) contracted with IDD to create a new professional development module for teachers as part of the Library of Congress’ Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) Direct. The third in a series of six TPS self-directed modules is “Analyzing Primary Sources: Maps.” Three of six self-directed, online professional development courses are available now on the Teachers page in the Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) Direct section. They include: "Introduction to the Library of Congress," "Analyzing Primary Sources: Photographs and Prints" and "Analyzing Primary Sources: Maps." “Introduction to the Library of Congress” is an overview of the vast resources available for free at LOC.
“Analyzing Primary Sources Photographs and Prints” and “Analyzing Primary Sources: Maps” introduce teachers to some of the most famous photographs and prints and maps available in the Library’s collections. In addition these modules offer teachers hands-on primary source analysis activities. The modules are designed to show educators how to bring primary sources into the classroom and help their students think critically and construct knowledge. Both programs provide teachers with effective ways to find, save, and use primary source material. For more information about the Library of Congress go to www.loc.gov. By the end of 2009, all six modules will be available online at:
