3/19/2014

Mary Miller IDDIDD, Inc.'s leader of 23 years recently received a special honor. Our very own Dr. Mary Guy Miller was awarded the 2014 Business Woman of the Year by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber, along with Paula Wider with Wilder Weber Leadership Group and Sara Bohn with JSW Financial, created the first annual (sold out) Leading Women - A Leadership Conference focused on aspiring and accomplished professional business women. Dr. Miller stood in front of over 250 of her female peers, nominators, and friends as we all listened to the story of her commitment to our region. Without adding her curriculum vitae to a news article, you can view excerpts from her award introduction below.

"Dr. Miller has spent the past 30 years promoting the benefits of technology and has won numerous awards for her work. She was a founding member and past president of the NewVA Century Technology Council (NCTC), now known as the Roanoke Blacksburg Technology Council (RBTC). She served for six years on Virginia’s Information Technology Investment Board and was a member of the Supply Diversity Advisory Board that has been tasked by Governor McDonnell to revamp and revitalize the Commonwealth’s small, women-owned and minority owned business procurement programs.

Committed to the importance of education, Dr. Miller received her master's of information science (MIS), as well as her doctorate in instructional design from Virginia Tech. Her dedication to her Alma Mater and to the field of information technology was recognized at the 75th Anniversary of Women at Virginia Tech, when she was chosen as an outstanding woman alumna. She was recently inducted into Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering Academy of Excellence, joining an elite group of 97 individuals out of 55,000 living engineering alumni. Last May, Dr. Miller was named the Virginia Tech College of Engineering’s Distinguished Alumna. Mary continues to mentor undergraduate students from Virginia Tech in entrepreneurial activities.

Recognized as one of the Top 100 Multimedia Developers in the United States, Dr. Miller is a sought after speaker and consultant in the area of Instructional Design and Leadership.

Dr. Miller has been at the forefront of promoting technology in the Roanoke and New River Valley as well as throughout Virginia. She has put her heart and soul into service to others. As a pioneer in the technology industry, she has IDD Mary Millerempowered our region and given it a voice, which has helped many through the years, especially young women. Her success and unwavering dedication opened the door for many of us.

We have heard her say, 'We all warm ourselves on fires we did not build and we all drink from wells we did not dig.'

We have been lucky enough to enjoy the path Mary has built and think she has spread warmth across our region with grit, intellect, compassion, style –a smile –and grace.

Mary is a tenacious, magnetic, and dynamic LEADING woman who has an unbreakable positive frame of reference through which she sees life."
